LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Laparoscopic Surgery is a specialty of Curis Multispeciality Clinic. A specialized method of performing surgery is laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery. This method was frequently applied in the past for gallbladder surgery and gynecologic procedures. Intestinal surgery now uses this method more frequently than it did ten years ago. The surgeon enters the abdomen through a single incision during traditional open surgery. Multiple 0.5–1 cm incisions are made during laparoscopic surgery. Each cut is referred to as a port. A trochar, a tubular instrument, is inserted into each port. During the procedure, specialized tools and a specialized camera known as a laparoscope are passed through the trochars. The abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide gas at the start of the procedure to give the surgeon a workspace and viewing area. Images from the abdominal cavity are transmitted by the laparoscope to high-definition video monitors in the operating room. The surgeon views detailed images of the abdomen on the monitor throughout the procedure. The same procedures as in conventional surgery can be carried out using this system but with smaller incisions. A surgeon may decide to use a unique kind of port that is big enough to insert a hand in certain circumstances. Hand-assisted laparoscopy is the name of the surgical procedure when a hand port is used. The incision needed for the hand port is typically smaller than the incision needed for traditional surgery, despite being larger than the other laparoscopic incisions.
